How much is the monthly stipend?
The Center has launched this scheme with the aim of imparting skills to one crore people in the top 500 companies in the next five years. Internship will be started from December at a cost of Rs.800 crore for this program which will be undertaken as a pilot project in 2024-25. Internship will be provided to around 1.25 lakh people in this financial year. Financial assistance will be provided to the selected candidates at the rate of Rs.5,000 per month for one year. There is also Rs.6,000 (one-time grant) given before joining the company. That means you will get Rs.66,000 in total in a year.
Companies that voluntarily participate in this scheme will provide internship for a year. Candidates should spend at least half of this time in a real work environment rather than in a classroom. Any company/bank/financial institutions can join this scheme with the approval of the concerned ministry.
Is there an insurance facility?
There is a personal insurance facility for those enrolled in the internship. Insurance is provided through central government insurance schemes like PM Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and PM Suraksha Bima Yojana. The government pays the required premium for this.
Who is eligible?
Subject to certain conditions, young men and women between the ages of 21 to 24 years are eligible for this scheme. Candidates who are enrolled in Online/Distance Education program as well as candidates who have passed SSC as well as having degrees like ITI, Polytechnic, BA, BSc, BCA, BBA, BPharmacy can apply. Those who belong to the families of government employees, families whose annual income exceeds ₹8 lakhs and those who have graduated from higher educational institutes like IIT, IIM, CA, CMA qualification are not eligible for this internship.
